Please visit the Recreation Department’s website to sign up for 2024 summer programming. Registration for swimming lessons begins April 23 for High Demand classes, and April 30 for nonresidents. Please see the information below from the Wauwatosa Recreation Department on swimming lessons at TOSA Pool.

Wauwatosa Recreation Programming at TOSA Pool at Hoyt Park

Lessons will be canceled when TOSA Pool Guard Staff deems it appropriate to close the pool. It is rare that the pool will be closed. Criteria for closing the pool include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Thunder or Lightning. If severe weather is indicated by thunder or lightning in the area by TOSA Pool Guard Staff, lessons taking place at that time will be canceled. The decision to re-open the pool will be made by  TOSA Pool Guard Staff once the threat of severe weather has passed. Point of reference: lessons will resume approximately 30 minutes after the last occurrence of thunder or lightning.
  2. Contamination of the pool.
  3. Mechanical or facility issues.

Rain is not an indicator that the pool is closed. However, the pool may be closed for a period of time if it is raining heavily.

Please keep in mind that weather can be unpredictable and can change quickly. The Wauwatosa Recreation Department will not have up-to-date information regarding the status of lessons. Participants may need to report to TOSA Pool to check on possible closure. If the ‘Pool Closed’ sign is out, lessons at that current lesson time have been canceled, though following lessons may still take place. Tosa Rec swim instructors will stay throughout the session. If the last lesson is a no-go, they will leave at the start of the last lessons.

Although TOSA Pool is heated, the pool temperature may fluctuate due to weather conditions. Come prepared for cooler weather with extra towels and clothes as needed.

When you arrive, please wait at the main entrance gate until a Tosa Rec staff member has checked you/your child in.  Only your child will be allowed on the pool deck for Starfish swim lessons and Level Swim lessons.  If you are registered for an Aqua Mini, Aqua Baby, Aqua Tots or Aqua Tykes class, only one caregiver is allowed to enter the premises for lessons.  This information was posted in the online description of the class at the time of registration and is listed on your receipt.  Tosa Rec staff will escort the swimmers from the main gate to the pool and back to the main gate after lessons.  TOSA Pool has provided additional seating by the main gate and you are also able to sit at the tables in the beer garden during lessons.

Stay home if you have a cough, fever or other symptoms of COVID-19 or GI tract symptoms (potentially indicating other concerns such as giardia or E-coli) including nausea, vomiting or diarrhea in the past two weeks. Keep your fellow swimmers and the pool healthy! It is highly recommended that you wash your hands with soap and water frequently, especially after using the toilet.  Additionally, please shower off before returning to the pool.
